In our Part 1 preview we took a look a the recent form of some of the longer shots in this years race.  Bourbon War, Joevia, Sir Winston, and Tax all had some decent performances in their 2019 racing campaign but none that really jumped off the page, at least to me I didn’t see any.

Today we are going to take a look at three more Thoroughbreds in this years Belmont Stakes race; Intrepid Heart, Spinoff, and Everfast and we even got treated to the release of the post positions for Saturday’s race early Wednesday morning! Interesting that the two favorites have drawn the outside positions.  more on that in part three.

#6 – Spinoff (15-1)

2019 Stats: 3 starts – 1 first – 1 second

Spinoff was last seen back in early May at the Kentucky Derby and in a packed race of 20 horses he came up quite empty, finishing just ahead of only two others in the race and posted an 18th place finish.  His odds were long in that race (30-1) but he did break out of the 17th post position well and hung around 5th-7th place throughout the first 3/4 mile of the race but ran out of gas awful quick after that and faded to the back of the pack.

Despite his rough outing in the derby there are still two other races that Spinoff has ran this year that provide some encouragement if one if thinking of adding this horse to their tickets come Saturday.  In Spinoff’s prior race before the Kentucky Derby, the Louisiana Derby, the horse placed 2nd after having to start from the 10 spot in the gate.  Spinoff had a speed figure of 95 in that race, broke out of the gate well and hung in 2nd-3rd position for the duration of the race.  He finished in second place just 3/4 length behind the winner, By My Standards.

Spinoff’s lone victory in 2019 came back in a 6 horse claiming race by in late February.

#2 – Everfast (12-1)

2019 Stats: 6 starts – 0 firsts  – 2 seconds

As I was capping the Preakness Stakes three weeks ago I did find it a bit ironic that a horse named Ever”FAST” could have such long odds like he did at 50-1 for that race.  Well I, like most i’m sure, were fooled by the odds as this horse did live up to it’s name and place second at the Preakness making that the second Triple Crown race in a row this year that a horse of 50-1 or longer finished in the top 2 (Country House 65-1 won the Kentucky Derby.)

While Everfast did not run in the Kentucky Derby, he did still run at Churchill Downs on that day in a earlier race, The Pat Day Mile.  Everfast placed 5th in that race, posted a speed figure of 87 (he ran a 105 in the Preakness) and was never much of a factor in the Pat Day Mile.  He started in the 11 position in that 14 horse race, broke to the 5 position out of the start and remained 5-7 for the remainder of the race.

In his race prior to the Pat Day Mile, Everfast ran the Florida Derby (Grade 1) and took 9th out of 11 in that race.

#8 – Intrepid Heart (10-1)

2019 Stats: 3 starts – 2 firsts – 0 second – 1 third

Intrepid Heart is a horse that we are now just first hearing of when compared to the others that have been present in the Triple Crown race scene in 2019.  While this horse does have a nice 2019 resume, hitting the board in each of his three races and claiming two victories, I’m hesitant to jump on this one because of how untested he might be.

His two victories have come in a claiming race at Keenland and a Maiden special weight race at Oaklawn Park back in February. He did post nice speed numbers in those races, 95 & 103 respectively and has averaged a speed figure of 97 in his 2019 races.

In his most recent race, The Peter Pan Stakes (Gr 3) that was held on the tracks of Belmont Park, he placed 3rd out of 5 after starting from post position 1 and quickly falling to 4th-5th before battling back to just hit the board.

We will have the remaining three horses at the top of the odds list along with PICKS PICKS PICKS in our Part three Belmont Stakes Preview later this week.  Follow along for all of our content because we give out WINNERS, it’s just something we do.
